Ontario (ON) family law software
Family law calculations built for Ontario firms
Ontario family-law firms run on the Family Law Act for property and the federal Divorce Act for support. Equalization of net family property — including the matrimonial-home exception — is where most ON files turn.
What Divo calculates for Ontario files
Child support
Federal Child Support Guidelines (SOR/97-175) table amounts, section 7 special expenses, shared parenting set-off, and imputed income under s. 19
Spousal support
SSAG without-child and with-child formulas, duration ranges (rule of 65, indefinite), and lump-sum equivalents
Property division
Ontario does not split assets — it equalizes the increase in net worth during the marriage. Each spouse's NFP is calculated, the larger pays half the difference. The matrimonial home is treated specially: it's never excluded, even if owned before marriage.
Tax & benefit impacts
Spousal support deductibility, Canada Child Benefit interactions, GST/HST credit, and provincial benefits modeled into net cash positions

Net Family Property (NFP) equalization
Ontario does not split assets — it equalizes the increase in net worth during the marriage. Each spouse's NFP is calculated, the larger pays half the difference. The matrimonial home is treated specially: it's never excluded, even if owned before marriage.
Matrimonial home rule
Under FLA s. 18, any home ordinarily occupied at separation is a matrimonial home. Both spouses have equal possessory rights regardless of title, and pre-marriage value cannot be deducted from NFP.
